| We have developed the program after years of working with Don Budge, a man who in his prime excelled above all others in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. His record stood throughout the 20th century because he knew how to develop a power and finesse game that has stood the test of time. |
We also have a local annual and
seasonal program
for recreational players committed
to a regular schedule of improvement.
As the only American male to have ever won the real Grand Slam (four slams in one year), Budge had the vision and dedication to turn his game around and to help others, such as Maureen Connolly (the only American female to have ever won a Grand Slam) turn their games around. Budge analyzed his own game as keenly as he analyzed his opponent's games. He knew how to correct player's weaknesses as easily as he knew how to beat a player. Following Budge's analysis and advice, Hall of Fame player John McEnroe began posting a winning record against Ivan Lendl and Bjorn Borg, both players who McEnroe had difficulty beating prior to Budge's advice. Budge also advised Pete Sampras' coach. Don Budge, more than any other player in history, set the standard which led to today's prevailing playing style. With his excellence in tennis, sportsmanship, honor, and in life, he inspired by his accomplishment and example. We at the Don Budge Academy are committed to carry on his tradition of excellence. |
