Annual USTA Middle States Tennis Conference

Scheduled for March 5-7, 2004 at Hershey Lodge & Convention Center

FEASTERVILLE, PA – Pam Shriver leads an impressive array of speakers that have been lined up for the 2004 Middle States Tennis Conference at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Cente in Hershey, Pa., March 5-7. Anyone who teaches or plays tennis, is a parent of a junior player, is a volunteer, or is a fan of the sport will enjoy the camaraderie, fun, and educational opportunities offered by this unique weekend tennis conference.

The conference is co-presented by the USTA/Middle States Section, the Middle States Division of the US Professional Tennis Association, and the Professional Tennis Registry. Many of the speakers are renowned as tennis experts in their respective fields, including Jim Baugh, president of the Tennis Industry Association and former president of Wilson; Todd Snyder, head trainer for the USA Davis Cup team who formerly worked privately with Pete Sampras; and Eric Small, a nationally recognized expert in pediatric adolescence sports medicine. Numerous sessions, including a Parent-Junior Forum, will also take place. A partial list of speakers and their topics follows:

Attendees can attend a Welcome Reception on Friday followed by a team tennis social at the Hershey Racquet Club, attend educational seminars throughout the day on Saturday, and dance the night away after the annual awards celebration on Saturday night. Last year, over 350 participants attended the conference.

The cost for the full weekend conference is $100, and the additional cost for the Saturday Awards Party is $30. The cost to attend just the Saturday seminars is $80. In addition, special coaches workshops are available on Friday by USPTA and PTR for an additional fee. The Hershey Lodge & Convention Center is offering a special room rate for conference attendees of $100 for single or double occupancy. USTA/Middle States, one of 17 USTA sections throughout the nation, encompasses Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey (exclusive of a 35-mile radius around New York City) and northwestern West Virginia. USA/MS is dedicated to carrying out the goals of the national association within its region. The USPTA and PTR are organizations of tennis teaching professionals.
