2002 Junior Accomplishments

PIAA Class AA Girls Singles: 1st Christine Kansky, Crestwood  2nd Susan Pollack, Wyomissing  Singles 1. Grace Blakely 2. Susan Pollack and 3. Katie Jaxheimer  There was no other EPD finalists in Class AA Girls doubles, Class AAA Girls singles, or Class AAA Girls doubles. Wyomissing's Doubles 1. Michelle Friedmann and Keri Dorko 2. Ashley Reed/Rebecca Rees.


PIAA Girls AAA: Semifinal: Lower Merion defeated Parkland (EPD) 4-1.  (That means that Parkland finished 3rd or 4th, since they do not have a consolation for team play.)

PIAA Girls AA: Semifinals, Scranton Prep (EPD) defeated Moravian Academy (EPD) 3-2 and Wyomissing (EPD) defeated Montoursville (EPD) 5-0.  

Finals Wyomissing defeated Scranton Prep 5-0.  Wyomissing's Team, Singles 1. Grace Blakely 2. Susan Pollack and 3. Katie Jaxheimer; Doubles 1. Michelle Friedmaman and Keri Dorko  2. Melissa Reed/Liz Rees.  Scranton Prep's Team, Singles 1. Rao 2. Pugliese 3. Cognetti; Doubles 1. Karam and Kerhli 2. Hemmier and Kranick.  PIAA does not include 1st names for Scranton Prep.  AshleyReed/Rebecca Rees at No. 2 doubles for Wyomissing.  

AA Boys Singles

3rd Mike Portnova, Bishop Hafey  (EPD) 
4th Samir Ghia, Moravian Academy (EPD).  

AA Doubles
1st Ravi Pujara and Usman Zafar, Blue Mountain (EPD) 

2nd Jordon Koslosky and Tye Morris, Wyoming Seminary (EPD).  

AAA Singles, 2nd Kavi Sud, Emmaus (EPD).  No other EPD finalists. In PIAA Boys AA Team play, 1st Moravian Academy (EPD).

 

Kudos to the USTA/MS Eastern Pennsylvania District Juniors Who Won Berths to the USTA Super National Winter Championships

According to the Middle States in their Junior Report Card notice on their website, almost three dozen national champions were crowned in the USTA National Open Championships, held throughout the nation during Thanksgiving week 2001. The champions are among the six players from each event who have
earned a berth to the prestigious USTA Super National Winter Championships in Phoenix, Ariz. and Tucson, Ariz. to be played from Dec. 27-Jan. 1.
