Two Tennis Finals Settled by Tie Breaks
Ralph Tutlane reported that at the 2002 Keystone Games
Tennis Tournament, the finals were decided by a tie-break formula. The following
two Boys Doubles draws ended a tie break: All three teams in both draws had one
win and one loss. The first tie-break formula was decided by the best
overall record and the second tie-break formula was decided by percentage of
sets won of all sets played.
Boys 12 Doubles:
Gowin/Horrigan were 3-2 in sets or 60% -- 1st Place and
Gold Medalists.
Borden/Kaneff were 2-2 in sets or 50% -- 2nd Place and Silver Medalists.
Jose/Patel were 2-3 in sets or 40% -- 3rd and Bronze Medalists.
Boys 14 Doubles:
Allen/Allen were 3-2 in sets or 60% -- 1st Place
and Gold Medalists.
Caplan/Das were 2-2 in sets or 50% -- 2nd Place and Silver Medalist.
Suplizio/Thomsen were 2-3 in sets or 40% -- 3rd Place and Bronze Medalists.
