TRENTON NETS LEGENDS OF TENNIS MATCH-UP


"Legends of Tennis" presented by Borden Perlman Insurance featured John
McEnroe and Boris Becker at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ, on March 3, 2003. The arena had a capacity of 5,500. 

McEnroe and Becker competed in a match consisting of a best of
three-set competition and then played a celebrity doubles match with local players.

John McEnroe has more than 150 singles and double titles to date. One of his proudest achievements was leading the U.S.A. to five Davis Cup titles.
McEnroe holds the record for the most U.S. Davis Cup wins in singles (41)
and in singles and doubles combined (59). McEnroe has many achievements over the course of his career. Some of his wins include: 7 Grand Slam Singles Championships, including 3 Wimbledon Singles Championships and 4 U.S. Open Single Championships; 5 U.S. Davis Cup Championships; 10 Grand Slam Doubles Championships, including 5 Wimbledon Double Championships; and many more records.  

In 1999, John McEnroe was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Boris Becker started playing professional tennis in 1984. At the age of 17,
he won the Wimbledon Championship, making him the youngest Wimbledon winner in history. In 1989 Becker won the Davis Cup for Germany and was ranked #2 in the world. In 1991, he was named as the #1 professional tennis player in the world. Between 1992 and 1996, he won the Olympic Gold Medal with Michael Stich, won the ATP final in Frankfurt, and won the Australian Open. Over the course of Becker's career, he has won a total of 49 championship matches including 1985, 1986, 1989 Wimbledon, the 1989 U.S. Open, and the 1991 Australian Open. In addition, Becker was the finalist in 27 championship matches including 1988 Wimbledon, the 1989 Masters, and 1990, 1991, and 1995 Wimbledon.
