Moravian College 01 Women Tennis Players

Corinne Kleinsmith and Jen Genevese of Moravian College were named to the Commonwealth Conference tennis All-Star team after the two combined to win the MAC doubles championship this year.

Kleinsmith, who finishes her career with a singles record of 41-17, ended the season 6-7 in the first singles slot. Genevese was undefeated with 13-0 record at the second singles position.

Becky Deringer, who took a 14-0 mark into the MAC Individual Tournament, was named the conference’s Rookie of the Year. Deringer, who played third singles for the Greyhounds, suffered her first defeat of the year in the quarterfinals of the MAC tournament and finished the season at 15-1.

Coach Dawn Benner grabbed her third straight Coach of the Year award after leading the Hounds to an overall record of 16-0, their second perfect record in the last four years. Benner also led Moravian to its fifth MAC team championship in the last six years this fall.

The Greyhound team includes a number of players who have graduated from high schools within our District. Included are Liberty grad Julie Anderson, Bangor grad Lauren Castagna, Salisbury grad Katie Copf, Pen Argyl grad Lindsay Corvino, Dieruff grad Becky Deringer, Whitehall grad Jen Genevese, Schuylkill grad Missy Graeff, and Stroudsburg grad Lacey Leverberg.

Assisting head coach Dawn Benner are Sharon Lamond and Autumn Zander.

In the Girls Team Championships 01 Class 2A:

Moravian Academy defeated Bethlehem Catholic and will represent District 11 at the State Team Championships, which will be held in Altoona beginning October 27.
