information for the Deaflympics. USA Tennis Special
Populations has assisted with balls, draws, promotional item(s). We will
have a feature on the website with photos in the near future.
2004 USADSF NATIONAL DEAF TENNIS TRYOUTS
Location: Ft. Myers, Florida
Date: February 27-29 2004
Tournament Site: Florida Gulf Coast University
The tournament will be played on FGCU campus Saturday and Sunday and will
determine the best tennis players for the 2005 Deaflympic Games. The Games
will be held in Melbourne, Australia in January, 2004.
The matches will be played all day Saturday and Sunday. The Ad Hoc Tennis
Committee is hosting the tournament under the auspices of the USA Deaf
Sports Federation (USADSF), with the sponsor of the US Tennis Association
(USTA) and with the wonderful generosity by the Florida Gulf Coast
University (FGCU).
Friday night will be a pizza and tournament drawing night at Alico Arena on
FGCU campus for players, players' family and VIP. Please ask the campus
information center at the entrance for directions. The Arena is a brand new
gymnasium and should be easy to find. It will open at 6:30 PM. 10 men and 11
women players have signed up so far.
Saturday will start play at 9 AM and continues until play is finished for
the first two rounds in both winning and losing brackets. It is expected it
will finish 6 PM. Sunday play will start 9 AM and will conclude at 4 PM.
Some players must return home afterwards to go to school Monday.
Saturday night is open. The committee is open to ideas for entertainment.
