We are again being offered the opportunity for four of our USTA/MS volunteer attendees to participate in a tour of Arthur Ashe stadium. The media facilities, interview rooms and players' lounge are among the areas that can be visited. Those of us who have taken this 50-60 minute tour in the past have really enjoyed it.

I would appreciate it if the chairs and/or vice-chairs of USTA/MS committees could please forward the information to anyone on your committees who may be interested in self-nomination to a USTA national committee. If there is currently no chair identified, would the board liaisons please forward the information to the committee or subcommittee.
USTA/MS is happy to support your interest in serving on a national committee. If you would like me to nominate you, please forward your name, membership number and the up to three committees in which you are interested. You must be a current member of the USTA to be considered for any national assignment. Please also indicate which of the following positions you would like to be considered for - Division Council Chair, Chairman, Vice Chairman or Member. In addition to my nomination, you must also submit a self-recommendation form to the USTA.
Please be aware that the current committee structure is under review. There may be significant changes regarding existing committees and their size. The Strategic Planning Committee will be presenting its recommendation on Sunday, September 5 at the semi-annual meeting. This will be a recommendation to the incoming president as it is ultimately his decision as to the committee structure of the USTA. If, before the 20th, anything is confirmed by the president-elect, you will have the opportunity to go on-line and resubmit a self-recommendation form. The AGC will accept the latest submission. For those attending the semi-annual meeting, there will be kiosks available at the meeting to help people go online and self-nominate.
Please don't
hesitate to write or call if you have any questions. Thanks, all, and
take care.
Bette Salmon
Here is the letter:
To USTA Committee Members:
It’s time to start thinking about the USTA Committee Appointment Process (CAP) for the committees and Board of Directors starting in
January 2005. Many of you have been through this in years past, but we wanted to inform you of some new features this year, designed
to make the process easier for everyone.
One of the aims of the current Advisory Group on Committees, chaired by Barb Lawrence, is to demystify the committee appointment
process and open up nominations. To that end, a new webpage on www.usta.com <http://www.usta.com> explains the appointment
process, details the timeline, and offers online submission of recommendation forms. From the USTA homepage, it is under “About
USTA”, labeled “Committees”. The website, which you are free to share with others, is: <http://www.usta.com/aboutus/default.sps?
iType=920&icustompageid=10328>. This will be publicized to USTA sections, districts, and current committee members, as well as to the
general public through the USTA homepage.
Sections have also been empowered to make recommendations directly using the CAP database, eliminating the need for locating
extensive nominee information and filling out repetitive forms. Keenya Warner has trained many section representatives (presidents,
executive directors, and designated staff) on how to use the system. This will reduce the need for hundreds of paper forms.
Online submission will be strongly recommended as a first option, but, for those who wish, paper recommendations will still be available,
on both the new webpage and in the registration packets distributed at the USTA Semi-Annual Meeting during the US Open. Much
appreciation goes to USTA Advanced Media Content Senior Manager Lucas Swineford for creating the online submission process and
working to make the website accessible.
We want to encourage you as well to consider making recommendations for committee appointment, as you have great working
knowledge of many in and outside of the USTA family. Please remember, anyone you nominate must also submit a self-recommendation
form as well.
Feel free to respond with any questions or concerns, and as always, thank you for your work to promote and develop the growth of
tennis.
Barbara Lawrence Andrew Feldman, Chair, Advisory Group on Committees USTA Volunteer Development Manager
